Lets talk about Mission...
Mission has been on my heart for the longest time, even before I became a Christian.
I know, that sounds strange. You might be thinking, “How can someone feel called to mission before even knowing Jesus?” And honestly, a part of me hesitates to say it out loud because I know it might ruffle a few feathers. But it’s true.
When we talk about “mission,” we often think instantly of spreading God’s Word, preaching, evangelising, travelling to new places, or serving in the church. And yes, mission includes those things, but it also starts much deeper. Mission begins with a sense of calling. A desire to serve. A longing to help others. A feeling that your life is meant to be poured out for something greater than yourself.
And that desire has been burning inside me for years.
Even before I knew Jesus, before I understood faith or grace or salvation, I had this deep ache to help people. I didn’t know where it came from. I didn’t know why it mattered so much. I just knew that I felt most alive when I was serving, encouraging, or supporting someone else. Looking back now, I can see clearly: that wasn’t just “my personality.” That was God’s hand. That was the seed of mission He planted in my heart long before I recognised His voice.
Once I was saved, once I met Jesus and experienced His love for myself, everything clicked into place. It felt like the missing piece finally slid into the puzzle. The desire I’d carried for so long suddenly had purpose. It wasn’t just a vague passion; it was part of my spiritual journey. God had been drawing me toward Himself, shaping me, preparing me, stirring mission in me even when I didn’t know it.
And now, standing on the other side of that transformation, that desire is stronger than ever.
Not only do I want to serve others, I also want to help lead them to Jesus. I want people to know the same love that rescued me, the same grace that healed me, the same hope that changed everything. Mission, for me, isn’t just about “doing good.” It’s about pointing people toward the One who is Good.
I believe God calls every one of us to mission, BUT He starts by planting a spark inside us long before we realise what it is. ”
Okay, but what does it mean to be on Mission? Is maybe what you are now thinking.
One thing I’ve been learning, and unlearning, is what it actually means to be on mission. There’s this common idea that mission is something that only happens far away: travelling to the other side of the world, going into poorer or derelict communities, serving for months or even years at a time. And yes, that absolutely is mission. It’s powerful, it’s needed, and honestly, it’s something I hope to do one day myself.
But mission isn’t limited to those big, dramatic moments.
Mission is also woven into the tiny, everyday moments of our ordinary lives.
Mission is the way we interact with people.
It’s the way we speak: the gentleness or patience we choose.
It’s the way we act: the integrity, kindness, and compassion we carry.
It’s the way we show up: even on the days when no one is watching.
Every single day, we have opportunities to reflect Jesus to the people around us.
And the reality is this: for many people, we might be the closest thing to the Gospel they ever encounter. We might be the only glimpse they get of God’s love, God’s character, or the truth found in Scripture. The way we live becomes a living testimony, not perfect, but sincere.
That means mission isn’t just a destination; it’s a posture.
It’s not just crossing oceans; it’s crossing the street.
It’s not just preaching from a platform; it’s listening, encouraging, forgiving, serving, and loving in the places God has already put us.
We mustn’t underestimate the power of small, faithful acts. When we carry ourselves with grace and humility, when we choose compassion over judgment, when we treat people with dignity and kindness, we are living out our mission. We are revealing Jesus in a world that desperately needs Him.
And the more I follow Jesus, the more I’m realising that mission begins right where you are, with the people right in front of you.
Love always,
