A reminder on our Identity.
I recently listened to one of my favorite Artists Lauren Daigle songs called 'You say' and it inspired me to write this blog.
The powerful song describes the difference between how we view ourselves in comparison to how God sees us and it is such a beautiful reminder to us all that our identity is found through Christ and Christ alone. The song has so many lyrics which really stand out to me and I want to share with you.
I Think we have all had moments in our lives where we can feel crossroads happen. Where we can see the past and the future and realize how are we ever going to exist in the present. We are trying to figure out how to just exist when so many things can be pulling us in all different directions.
A lot of the time this is down to insecurity, fear, rejection and deceit which we have to overcome on a daily basis. I really felt this song on a deeper level because it reminded me of my own identity. Its this reminder that when I feel weak , He is strong and that when I feel unloved and like I don't belong He says I am His and He has an unfailing love for me and us all that nothing could ever compare to.
The song starts off talking about the internal struggles that we all tend to face on the daily basis with negative self-talk, insecurities and feelings of loneliness. " I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I'm not enough". These lyrics reflect how easily it is for us to believe that we are not enough and that we don't belong and in turn this can mirror how some of us view our own identities.
However, the heart of this song contrasts these lies with the honest truth of what God says about us.
"You say I am loved when I can't feel a thing, You say I am strong when I think I am weak and You say I am held when I am falling short and When I don't belong, oh You say I am yours." These lyrics really hit home for me as they are God's affirming words. God's truth about my identity, which does not ever change. My value and everyone's values are not determined by our emotions, flaws and failures but by the constant unfailing love and grace God gives to us.
The song reminds me that our identity is rooted in who God says we are not in our own perception and judgments from others. This truth and understanding helps me and all of us to redefine our sense of self through God's perspective. Throughout the song " You say" is repeated a lot and this really emphasized to me the strength and power of Gods words over my own thoughts and limiting beliefs about myself.
When we accept God's love and truth, I truly believe it will transform how we see ourselves.
We can start to embrace our true identity as beloved Children of God rather than being defined by imperfections or by worldly standards.
" You say I am Yours and I believe." Surrendering and accepting Gods truth about who we are and stop relying on our own understandings and negative views on our own identities will free us immensely and allow us to be transformed by Christ.
This song deeply resonated with me and If you ever get the chance I really recommend to anyone who may be struggling with their own identity to give it a listen and I hope the lyrics will resonate deeply with you as well and allow you to find your worth and identity through God and his Unconditional love.
Love Always,
Ruby xo
