The importance of staying fit.
Fitness is so crucial not just for our physical wellbeing but also our mental wellbeing. Being active releases neurotransmitters from our brain which makes us feel really good and helps reduce our anxiety and depression. Not to mention staying fit boosts our self-esteem and helps us to concentrate and sleep better.
But how do we stay fit ?
Staying fit does not mean going to the gym 6x a week, I mean yes some of us may do that and that is perfectly okay ,however ,that is not the only way to stay fit.
For me personally I am not the biggest fan of the gym I might go every now and then but I much prefer doing Pilates or yoga and finding classes like that with likeminded people to me.
I have been doing Pilates consistently for a few years now and it’s a bit of a running joke with everyone who knows me that I’m slightly obsessed with it as I talk about it so often. But it’s honestly because I have had so many benefits from it not just physically ,where I saw results much quicker than I ever did when I went to the gym regularly , but also mentally. I found that it became a way for me to get rid and cope with my stress ,anxiety and anything else going on in my head. After I work out I always feel so much happier, calmer, energized and a lot less stressed.
Not to mention it has given me so much confidence in myself that I wasn’t expecting to get from doing Pilates workouts.
At Uni I go to yoga classes when I can, and that has also been great as not only have I met some lovely girls there but it is also a nice way to slow down and relax and be in the moment. I mean don’t get me wrong while yoga is relaxing it can also be really hard and definitely tests your flexibility and balance and so is still a way of staying fit.
Walking is another way I love to stay active and I’m very blessed to live in such a beautiful area while at Uni which makes me want to get outside and go for a daily long walks, whether that’s by myself listening to music or a podcast or with friends. I found walking is also such a good way of clearing our heads when we have a lot going on in our lives.
Similar to that I love to go on hikes as I think it’s just such a nice way of not only staying fit but also getting out exploring and seeing more beautiful places as well as making memories with friends to look back on.
Swimming is also another one for me but more in the warmer months as I prefer to go swimming outdoors rather than indoors. Its again another way of staying fit which can be really enjoyable especially with others.
I’m also looking into starting dance classes again and getting back into dance after someone in my life recently encouraged me to do so.
My point is ,there are so many other things you can do to stay fit other than just going to the gym, that was just a few examples of things I do on my day to day.
I have friends who play football, volleyball , tennis, badminton, rugby, dance and track all of which are such good ways of staying fit.
Like I said before yes going to the gym is a great way of staying fit but for me personally and I’m sure many others it’s just not my cup of tea ,at the moment anyways, maybe one day I’ll fall back in love with it again but right now I’m happy finding other ways to stay fit because I know how important it is for our mental wellbeing just as much as our physical. I highly encourage you to find ways of staying fit as well even if it is just going out and walking more ,something is better than nothing.
Love always,
Ruby xo
