Things to do instead of scrolling!
We are all victims to the doom scroll, we go onto Social media with the intention of coming off it in 5 minutes only to still be on it an hour or even longer later. It is a toxic addiction and it is not healthy. Healthy things are supposed to make you feel good about yourself, mindlessly scrolling on social media and comparing yourself and your life to others does not make you feel good.
Don’t get me wrong I am very much guilty of doing this, however, I know that there is so much more I can do with my spare time which will make me feel a whole lot better and give me a greater sense of self-worth which is why I have created a list of things that you can do instead of scrolling.
But before I dive deep into the many things you can do instead of being on your phone, I wanted to share the benefits and importance of doing a digital cleanse. Taking time away and disconnecting from social media is one of the best acts of self-love there is as it will allow you to take better care of your mental wellbeing and will help you to grow as an individual. Think about it the only way to truly know who you are as an individual, is not found on your phone screen but found through life itself through the activities you do and the people you meet and so much more!
Having a digital cleanse has so many mental benefits from improving sleep patterns to feeling less anxious and overwhelmed. Not to mention one of the most important things being that it stops the comparison cycle that can cause so much harm to you. Ultimately going on a digital cleanse allows you to reconnect with the present moment and allows you to have so more gratitude for the life you have which I am sure is filled with so many blessings!
So, without further ado, below is thirty-five things you can do instead of scrolling:
- Go for a walk somewhere new.
- Go to a café on your own or with loved ones.
- Bake.
- Cook something new.
- Try out a new hobby.
- Play a sport.
- Go for a run.
- Listen to a podcast.
- Making Pinterest collages.
- Learn about other faiths and cultures.
- Read.
- Write.
- Walk the dogs.
- Go for a Hike
- Read the Bible.
- Go for a Swim.
- Journal.
- Practice gratitude
- Do breathe work.
- Meditate.
- Listen to uplifting music.
- Visit a friend.
- Try Pilates/yoga.
- Play a board game or card game.
- Go for a long drive.
- Go on a bike ride.
- Create a list of positive affirmations.
- Dance.
- Hug a loved one.
- Watch a sunset/sunrise!
- Go to the beach and dip your feet in the sea.
- Have a picnic.
- Travel somewhere new.
- Camp.
- Do something for your community.
Now, I am not saying you can never scroll on your phone again. What I am saying is to be more mindful with how you spend your time, because as you can see from the list I have given you, there is so much more you can do rather than just mindlessly doom scrolling on your phone. Things which will leave you feeling good and positive and overall so much happier. So, I hope you take my advice and go on that all important digital cleanse and start enjoying life to the fullest!
